This innovative piece of software enables you to make better notes through audio recording. Get help with navigating, annotating and organising your notes and audio files and then export your recording and notes to Microsoft Word or a portable audio device.

Audio voice recordings can provide a valuable tool when taking and revising notes of lectures, interviews or meetings, but re-listening and deciphering long digital recordings afterwards is a difficult task. Audio Notetaker provides you with a visual representation of your recording, enabling you to navigate and edit your recording with a few simple keystrokes while adding text and images.

  1. Record a class, interview, meeting (or even your own notes), either directly into Audio Notetaker or using a separate digital recorder. Audio Notetaker can also be used with other audio recordings, such as podcasts.
  2. Import your recording or audio file into Audio Notetaker. Navigate through your recording using simple keyboard commands or by simply moving though the audio pane with the mouse. You can personalise Audio Notetaker to suit your preferences – alter the font or colour options.
  3. Edit your recording by breaking it down into smaller sections, or use simple ‘cut’, ‘copy’ and ‘paste’ commands. Navigate through by arrow keys or using your mouse. You can even speed your recording up or slow it down to help with comprehension.
  4. Annotate your recording using colour highlighters or markers. Build up your notes and add images – add PowerPoint slides, images of PDF files or content from the internet. New ‘live recording’ mode enables you to make these annotations in real time while Audio Notetaker records.
  5. Export your notes to a word processor or mind-mapping tool. Alternatively, export your edited recording, broken down into manageable tracks, to listen to on an MP3 player or CD.
  6. Organise your recordings and notes using the dedicated Audio Notetaker File Manager. Use tags and the search tool to quickly locate the information when you need it.

So how does Audio Notetaker work?

Audio Notetaker Flash Demo

With its combined audio, text and images view, Audio Notetaker enables students, researchers and professionals to collate and structure all their notes and reference materials in one application. Students are able to annotate materials with audio, colour or text while the advanced file-management tools make it easy to find and review material for revision and assignments.

New Features for v2:

  • Live Note-taking: record directly on to your laptop via Audio Notetaker. Add keywords, highlight key points using colour markers and annotation tools or break up notes into sections in real time.
  • New image pane: display PowerPoint slides and images alongside your audio recordings
  • Improved audio and notes file manager: manage recording from your digital recorder through to reviewing your notes using the improved file management tools. Use the metadata and search tools to organise and locate the information you are after.
  • New full-screen mode: review your recordings and notes in the new full screen mode.
  • Improved Export Tools: Audio Notetaker’s powerful “Save to Album” feature has been enhanced to incorporate images so that students listening to their edited recordings on portable devices (such as an iPod or MP3 player) can view the related images or slides.
  • New integrated file format saves your audio with your images and text, making it easier to share your files with friends and colleagues.

Audio Notetaker is compatible with WMA, WAV and MP3 files and is ideal for use with the Olympus digital recorders (which automatically detect your index marks).

One of the best bits of software I've seen for a long time. I think it is absolutely brilliant. It works so well on a number of different levels. Being able to 'see' the sound file is just such a great idea. Even being able to rename it easily is good.
