Image Capture: Best Practise

When taking a picture with CapturaTalk it is extremely important that a good quality image is taken with the device in order to get reliable speech read back. To achieve the best results when taking a picture with CapturaTalk the image must be:

• Taken with the device camera set to the highest resolution or set to a minimum of 2M. CapturaTalk will either automatically set this resolution for you or you will be prompted to manually set the resolution with the Camera. (When running the Camera on the device there is usually a button on the “camera utility” that will alter the picture resolution). The Resolution must be set to 2M or higher in order to take a good quality picture.
• The target material must be placed in a well lit area in order to create a good contrast between the text and background.
• The picture must be taken as square to the text as possible. Pictures where the text is not horizontal will not create good results.

Font Styles:

CapturaTalk is designed to be used primarily with regular fonts and styles. Large bold fonts are not well catered for in this version of CapturaTalk.

Colour

CapturaTalk works best where the text is darker then the background and there is a good contrast between the text colour and the background colour.

The New ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine 3.0:

The ability to take a high-quality picture and therefore achieve reliable speech read back has been greatly enhanced by the new version of the Abbyy Mobile OCR Engine in CapturaTalk v3. This includes an automatic image skew correction function, meaning better results even when the text in the picture is not exactly horizontal.
