User Interface Basics
There are three primary components to the CapturaTalk user interface:
1. The "Always Active CapturaTalk menu" which appears as the CapturaTalk logo in the notification area.
2. The "CapturaTalk main window" which provides access to the Camera utility, recent files, older files and settings.
3. The "CapturaTalk toolbar" which displays when viewing images or when speaking text from applications. The toolbar provides access to all playback features and the Concise Oxford English Dictionary.
Always Active CapturaTalk menu
This useful menu is accessed by tapping the CapturaTalk icon in the notification area. The menu allows you to quickly access the following core features:
- Speak: The "Speak" button is used to read-out-loud any text that you have highlighted in a supported application.
- Speak All: The "Speak All" features will read all visible text from within the currently active (i.e. in the foreground) supported application.
- Explain: The "Explain" button launches the Concise Oxford English Dictionary and provides a definition for the currently highlighted word from within a supported application.
- New: The "New" button will launch your devices "Camera" application so that you can capture and image and have it imported into the "CapturaTalk Toolbar" window for reading.
- Open: The "Open" button launches the "CapturaTalk main window".
- Help: The "Help" button will open the CapturaTalk help file in your default internet browser.
CapturaTalk Main Window
This window acts as your access point to previously captured images, the Camera utility and CapturaTalk Settings.
The window is divided into two sections. The upper section contains buttons that link to other places such as your devices Camera utility or the Settings window. The lower section provides access to images you have already taken and contains a "Play" button that will load your selected file to be read.
Overview:
- Camera: The "Camera" button will launch your devices camera utility. Once taken, pictures from the Camera utility are opened by CapturaTalk to be converted into text and read-out-loud.
- Open File: The “Open File” button will allow you to search through all the folders on your phone for digital files which you want a read aloud by
CapturaTalk.
- Settings: The "Settings" button will open the Settings window enabling the user to alter CapturaTalk settings such as the option to show CapturaTalk when starting your device.
- Play: The "Play" button will take the currently selected "Recent File" and open it for reading with CapturaTalk.
Preview: Below the "Camera" button a preview of the selected image file is displayed. To the right of the review the file's creation date/time information is displayed.
Recent Files List: This list box displays your most recently used image files.
- More: The "More" button opens the full file list.
CapturaTalk Tool Bar
When viewing images with CapturaTalk, imported by either your Camera utility or by selecting an existing image file, you will be presented with the image and the CapturaTalk toolbar. The toolbar has the following features, some of which will be greyed out if no text is selected:
- Play: The "Play" button will play either all visible text or your currently selected text.
- Replay: The "Replay" button starts reading the selected text over.
- Explain: The "Explain" button will search the Concise Oxford English Dictionary for your currently highlighted word.
- Rotate: The "Rotate" button rotates your image by 90 degrees.
- Magnify: The "Magnify" button zooms in on the selected text.
